August 2022 Monthly Update

Dear Friends and Partners,

Last week, the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) approved the revised Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) proposed by the ELDS Review Committee. The approved standards now continue through the normal process to become formal rule. Your advocacy helped inform BESE’s decision and made a difference in ensuring that early care and education providers have guidance based on research and best practices to prepare our youngest learners for success in school and life. It is imperative that BESE members know how much we appreciate them. Please take the time to send a thank you note to BESE members for their support on this issue.

In addition to our ELDS win, last month the Louisiana Department of Education celebrated and honored an inaugural Early Childhood Teacher and Leader of the Year at the 16th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala. We are happy for Rochelle Wilcox recognized as Early Childhood Leader of the Year and Annie Richardson recognized as Early Childhood Teacher of the Year as they continue to strive for excellence for our youngest learners.

Thank you for advocating on behalf of young children and families in Louisiana!
